Our Purpose We are a purpose driven church, a focused church, one that has identified its reasons for existence, and is investing its energy and resources in fulfilling the identified purposes. Moreover a purpose driven church is not driven by tradition, the pastor, or the facilities, but by God’s mandate for His Church. At Davisville, our purpose is to reach and equip people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We derived our purpose out of two important statements which Jesus made to his early followers. These statements are often referred to as the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. The Great Commandment: Jesus replied: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV) The Great Commission: Therfore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20a (NIV) A purpose driven church is a balanced church. From these statements we have derived five purposes for the church. These purposes are Worship, Instruction, Service, Fellowship and Outreach. At Davisville, our desire is to keep these five purposes in balance because we believe that balance brings health, and health brings growth. As we seek to balance the five purposes that God has laid out for His Church, we are trusting God to bless us and make us fruitful in our service of Him. Jesus has promised that He will build His Church, and as we pursue His purposes for Davisville, we look forward with anticipation to see what God will do among us. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey of partnering with God. |
